Hey #HVVgirls!

Hands up if you've had wardrobe malfunctions in public that are painfully embarrassing. Chances are, we've all had our share of embarrassing moments and situations like these can be avoided with a few tricks up your sleeves. Discover our wardrobe hacks that keeps your zippers up, bra straps tucked, and buttons un-popped. If you’re on the lookout for ways to make your outfit more stylish while also preventing wardrobe malfunctions, we’ve got some for you.

#1 Keeping your zipper up

Zippers on our bottoms do occasionally come undone and fall (and unknowingly sometimes), which is extremely embarrassing when a stranger happens to be able to spot the colour of your panties. Though safety pins come handy in your purses, they can be difficult to remove when you need to use the restroom.

HVV Tip: Simply hook a keychain ring onto the loop of your zipper, zip it up, and loop the keychain ring over the button of your bottoms to conceal the ring; this helps the zipper stay up and is easy to remove if you need to use the restroom.

#2 Wearing sleeveless or backless items

The hot and humid weather in sunny Singapore calls for a day out in sleeveless dresses or even backless tops. Though these are some popular fashion choices, they can be a little tricky when trying to conceal our bra straps. Opt for bras with removable straps that you can wear with or without the straps depending on your outfit.

Alternatively, stick-on bras such as the Nu Bra have grown in popularity in Singapore and are perfect if you're looking for a more seamless look! A Nu Bra typically comes without straps and sticks directly on the body, allowing you to wear your sleeveless and backless clothing while still feeling safe and secure. And to be honest, we all love the feeling of going bra-less. 😉

#3 Prevent button-down tops from opening up

We’ve all had a friend (or even strangers) point to our chest to alert us about the little gap opening up between the buttons on our button-down tops. This happens so frequently that we've resorted to using tape taping to close up the gaps. Another solution is to sew hook and clasp closures in between the gaps to easily keep the gaps closed; this way, you won’t have to worry about it opening up again!

HVV Tip: Wear undergarments that match the colour of your top or dress that you're wearing! Chances are, no one would notice anything even if your buttons popped, all thanks to the magic of camouflage 🤭

#4 Prevent skirts and dresses from flying up

Flowy skirts and dresses are a staple in Singapore because they keep us cool, but the materials used to make them are light and can easily fly up when the wind blows. We all love a little Marilyn Monroe moment, but not when it exposes more than it should!

To prevent your dresses from flying up, simply tape one or two 50-cent or one-dollar coins to the hems of your dresses to hold them down. If you're feeling a little more crafty, you can even sew them on the underside of the hems.

HVV Tip: For extra security, wear safety shorts underneath your dresses and go on your day carefree without any worry about accidental exposures.

#5 Oversized

When you buy dresses or tops online, you might find that the sizing may not fit you perfectly at times, or that you may even have gotten the incorrect size.

To create a better fit, simply pinch the back of the dress/top to your desired size and stitch in a piece of elastic across; this will help to tighten the waistband while still providing you with a stretch for some extra allowance.

HVV Tip: For a quick fix, wear a belt to cinch in your waist. When all else fails, seize the trend and wear your oversized look with confidence. Our foodie bellies would definitely appreciate that extra space 🍔

#6 Crossbody bag to purse

Handbags and purses are classic accessories to complement your look. They don’t block your outfit and are also great for storing your necessities. While crossbody bags are more suitable for casual occasions, purses are the ideal choice if you're going for a romantic dinner date or even when you're in the mood for dressing up!

For a quick change of look, simply take one of your favourite crossbody bags and hide the strap inside the bag; now you have a brand new purse as well as a crossbody bag when you need it. Go from casual to glam with just a tuck of your straps. Stretch your dollar and have two different looks with just one bag!

#7 Keep sleeves up without folding

Layering is a popular fashion style in Singapore, but the long sleeves on our outerwear can make us feel stuffy on hot days. To keep your sleeves up without having to fold them, simply put an elastic band over your sleeve and pull your sleeves up, the elastic band will help hold your sleeves up, snug against your arm, and not show.
